Home Care Instructions

Your tooth and surrounding gum tissue may be slightly tender or achy for several days as a result of the manipulation during treatment and the previous condition of your tooth. This tenderness is normal and is no cause for alarm. Do not chew food on the affected side until your endodontic therapy is completed and your tooth is covered with a protective restoration provided by your restorative dentist. You may continue your regular dental hygiene regimen. Discomfort may be alleviated by taking ibuprofen (Advil), aspirin, or acetaminophen (Tylenol) as directed.

While you are still numb, which may be several hours after your treatment, please do not attempt to eat or chew anything.  This could lead to damage to your lip, tongue, cheek or tooth since you will not know that your are chewing on those areas of your mouth. Drinking fluids or a smoothie are fine as long as you do not need to chew these fluids. Soups are discouraged because you could burn your mouth while you are still numb.

Should you experience discomfort that cannot be controlled by the medications we prescribed to you, or should swelling develops, please contact this office immediately.
