Meet Dr. Ida

Dr. Rodney Ida is a graduate of the UCLA School of Dentistry and has been practicing dentistry since 1988. After graduating from UCLA, Dr. Ida completed a two-year general practice residency at the VA Medical Center in West Los Angeles serving as the Chief Resident of the VAWLA Dental Service. Upon completing his residency, Dr. Ida was hired as an associate professor for the UCLA-VAWLA residency program. During his tenure with this program, he was appointed as the Clinical Supervisor of the VA Brentwood Dental Clinic and Supervisor of Hospital Admissions for the dental service. Dr. Ida has trained dental students and residents in the areas of medical management of hospital patients, oral surgery, IV and oral sedation and removable prosthodontics.

In 1993, Dr. Ida decided to further his training by completing an endodontic specialty program at the Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas. Under the guidance of Drs. James Gutmann and Gerald Glickman, both former presidents of the American Association of Endodontists, Dr. Ida received a graduate degree in endodontics as well as a master’s degree in dental research from Baylor College of Dentistry. During his studies at Baylor, Dr. Ida served as Chief Resident for the Endodontics Program and graduated with a 3.9 g.p.a. His 5 years of post graduate specialty training is nearly double the training of most specialists in endodontics.

Dr. Ida has written multiple scientific papers involving his scientific research and clinical specialty. In 2011, he gave a lecture at the national meeting of the American Association of Endodontists entitled, “Using Negative Pressure Irrigation In Your Everday Practice”. This lecture was the first of its kind to address problem solving using enhanced negative pressure irrigation techniques during endodontic procedures.  These techniques help to improve the success and safety of root canal treatments. Also, Dr. Ida is currently a scientific consultant for Kerr Dental, one of the largest dental equipment companies in the world, where he helps to design the future innovations which will shape the specialty of endodontics.

Dr. Ida is a member of the American Association of Endodontists, Southern California Association of Endodontists, American Dental Association and the California Dental Association.

Dr. Ida has been selected by his peers as one of the top Orange County Dental Specialist for last several years.
